Claflin.W. (2008). The Uglified Ducky: A Maynard Moose Tale. Atlanta, GA: August
House.
This is a cute story of a moose that is claimed by a duck as her own chick. The moose can’t do anything the mom duck asks her duckling to do. He has antlers and can’t quack. He is told to carry a sign that says, “Quack.” The doctor says he is an, “uglified offspring.” He finally sees some moose and is afraid they will laugh at him for being uglified, but he is delighted when they approach him and start to talk to him and let him know he is a moose. The story teller lets you know that sometimes you might feel out of place with you family of ducks, but it’s only because you are a beautiful moose.
