The story begins by letting you know who Henry is and the situation he is in. He is a young slave boy, and he is removed from the family, a gift to the master’s son. He finds love and the starts a family of his own. One sad day, his wife and children are sold, and Henry is torn apart. He finds help and decides to mail himself to Philadelphia. Through a rough trip by train, steamboat, and train again, he arrives in Philadelphia, now a free man. With a birthday and a new middle name, “Box”.
