Boy Meets Boy

Levithan, D. (2003).  Boy Meets Boy.  New York, NY:  Random House.
This story is about a boy dealing with problems with relationships, friends, parents, and other teen problems.  What was a little difficult for me was the fact that this place he lived in was very open to gay living.  The star quarterback was transvestite.  Everyone was okay with everything the way they are.  What I did see was how everyone has problems, no matter whom you are and what your sexual preference is.  Tony was the best friend who was gay and had to deal with his very religious parents.  They, of course, did not want to accept their son being gay.  In the end, they are confronted by several people, both straight and gay, to show their support and helped show his parents that he was a great guy, no matter his sexual preference.  Joni, is his female best friend and he goes through tough times when she dates a football player who wanted to have relations with the quarterback, and their friendship is questioned.  In the end, he finds love, Tony finds piece with his parents and Joni is friends again with the group.  I was taken by the ease and natural atmosphere, and the acceptance of the different sexual preferences and life styles in this town.
