Shulevitz, U.  (2008).  How I Learned Geography.  New Jersey:  Phoenix Color Corp.

The story starts off during a time of war and the family fleeing with only what they were wearing.  They travel to a nearby country, live with a family that took them in, and faced hunger on a daily basis.  On one of father’s daily trip to find work or food, he returns with a huge map, but no food.  Mother is upset, but the map intrigues the boy.  He spends hours studying the map, which helped him forget he was hungry.  And that is how the boy learned geography.
