Riordan, R.  (2006). Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Book One:  The Lightning Thief.  New York, NY:  Miramax Books.

Percy is living with his mother and seems to be a typical A.D.H.D.  kid with dyslexia.  He doesn’t know who his father is.  Zeus’ lightning rod is stolen and he is to blame.  He is now finding out who he is, a Demi God.  He kills the minitor with his own horn.  He sets out to find pearls to get to Hades to save his mother.  He discovers who really takes the lightning bolt, returns it to Zeus, and stops a war from happening between the Gods.

Unexpected insights; finds his inner power, and you see what the friends are like.  Precise Vocabulary; all of the mythology is being used and explained.
