Bats at the Ballgame

See full size image

Lies, B. (2010).  Bats at the Ballgame.  New York, NY:  Houghton Mifflin Books for Children.

The story is written in rhyme, and has some eye catching illustrations.  It begins with the bats gathering at a baseball stadium.  The excitement and the bug snacks are all there.  The game is without any points until the end.  The opposing team hits the ball and luckily, it is a foul ball.  The home team is up to bat.  The ball is hit, and the runner coming in slides to home, but is called out.  It’s two out, last inning, and the batter hits the ball bringing in the winning runners.  The home team wins, and the bats go crazy.  The story ends as the sun is creeping up.
